Frequency and period are reciprocals of each other. If the period increases, frequency decreases, and vice versa.
For example, if a wave has a period of 0.25 seconds:
f = 1 ÷ 0.25 = 4 Hz
So the wave completes 4 cycles per second.
Frequency and Wavelength
For waves, frequency is also related to wave speed and wavelength:
v = fλ
Rearranging gives:
f = v ÷ λ
where v is wave speed and λ is wavelength.

Example Using Wave Speed
If a wave travels at 300 m/s and has a wavelength of 2 m:
f = 300 ÷ 2 = 150 Hz
The frequency is 150 Hz.
